CHICAGO -- Hector Noesi made the request and eventually got the result he wanted from Moises Sierra. That was a win for the Chicago White Sox. Noesis search for a victory continues. Sierra drove in the winning run with a single in the ninth inning, and the White Sox beat the Cleveland Indians 3-2 Wednesday night to complete a three-game sweep. "I think it was in the sixth inning I told him, Youve got to do something for me," Noesi said. "He did it in the last inning." Noesi and Clevelands T.J. House each delivered dominant starts. The Indians Jason Giambi hit his 440th homer, but the White Sox came away with their seventh win in 10 games. Cleveland had just scored a run in the top of the ninth off Ronald Belisario (3-3) when the White Sox answered in the bottom half against Bryan Shaw (1-1). Third baseman Mike Aviles bounced the throw to first on Tyler Flowers leadoff grounder. Pinch-runner Leury Garcia stole second and moved up on a fly by Marcus Semien before Sierra lined a 3-2 pitch to right for the winning single, teammates mobbing him around first base. "Ive done that in the minor leagues before," Sierra said. "But never in the major leagues and Im very happy and very thankful for that." It all happened after a botched throw on a routine play. "Routine ground ball, play thats gotta be made, and I didnt make it," Aviles said. The White Sox took a 2-1 lead in the eighth when Adam Dunn drove in Gordon Beckham with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly against Cody Allen, but Belisario couldnt hold it in the ninth. Michael Brantley drove a leadoff single off the pitchers right hip, and the problems just mounted from there. The Indians caught a break when Adam Dunn overthrew second after fielding Jason Kipnis grounder to first. With two out, Belisario intentionally walked Giambi before Brantley scored on Yan Gomes single, barely sliding in ahead of a strike from Sierra in right to tie it at 2-all. The blown save was the third in six chances for Belisario. The Indians took a 1-0 lead on Giambis solo homer off Noesi in the second. But Chicago tied it in the seventh when Dunn singled leading off against House and scored on a two-out base hit by Semien against Scott Atchison. Noesi, meanwhile, dominated over 7 1-3 innings but still is seeking his first win in more than two years. "Hes really transitioned well from going as the long guy in the bullpen to being a starter," manager Robin Ventura said. "I think hes gotten a better feel for some different pitches just because now hes going through the lineup a couple times and hes able to get a feel for it instead of being in there for an inning or an inning and a half." He gave up one run and five hits while striking out five without a walk. But the winless streak continued. The right-hander is 0-4 in six starts and 12 appearances this season with Seattle, Texas and Chicago and 0-14 in his last 40 games. His most recent win? That was when he beat Minnesota while with Seattle on May 6, 2012. House gave up one run and five hits in 6 1-3 innings and struck out eight while walking one. He left with a 1-0 lead after giving up back-to-back singles to Dunn and Alexei Ramirez, who was thrown out trying to stretch it to a double. "On a night that were going home pretty frustrated that was about an encouraging a start as youll see," manager Terry Francona said. "He was really good." NOTES: The White Sox have not decided if slugger Jose Abreu (left ankle tendinitis) will need rehab at-bats, although he is on course to return from the disabled list when hes eligible. "As of right now, there is not a plan for him to go out," Ventura said. He doesnt expect Abreu to be limited when he returns. ... Francona said RHP Zach McAllister (lower back strain) will throw Friday on the field at Progressive Field, possibly in a simulated-game setting. McAllister was placed on the 15-day disabled list last Thursday and threw a 50-pitch bullpen session Monday. . Francona said INF Nick Swisher (left knee) was examined and "structurally, hes pretty good" and had injections in both knees. "I think that the initial view is that it wont be an extended DL," Francona said. ... With Kipnis activated from the 15-day disabled list, INF Justin Sellers was optioned to Triple-A Columbus. "Wow," he said. Wainwright joined Clayton Kershaw as the majors only 20-game winners, pitching three-hit ball over seven innings, and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs 8-0 on Monday night. "I hope he realizes how special that is," Matheny said. "Hes in a very elite group." Wainwright hit the 20-win mark for the second time while matching his career-high for victories, and the Cardinals moved a step closer toward their second straight division title. They remained 2 1/2 games ahead of Pittsburgh in the NL Central with five to play with the Pirates beating Atlanta 1-0. St. Louis clinched its fourth straight playoff appearance on Sunday. Wainwrights run the past five years has been nothing short of jaw-dropping. Twice during that span he has won 20. Two more times he finished with 19 victories, and he hasnt won fewer than 14 in that stretch. "Its a tremendous honour, obviously," Wainwright said about winning 20. "But more important, its a big win for our team." Wainwright (20-9) won his fifth straight start and made it look easy, striking out eight and walking one. He gave up a double to Anthony Rizzo with two out in the first and did not allow another hit until back-to-back singles by Luis Valbuena and Welington Castillo with two out in the seventh. Just like Kershaw did for the Dodgers on Friday, Wainwright picked up his 20th win at Wrigley Field. And when he did it in 2010, victory No. 20 that year also came at the famed old ballpark. He got plenty of support in this one, with the Cardinals pounding Travis Wood (8-13) for seven runs and eight hits over five innings. The Cardinals scored four in the fourth and three in the fifth on the way to their eighth win in 10 games. Matt Holliday had two hits and scored two runs. He also drove in one. Matt Adams chipped in with two hits and two RBIs. Jon Jay added two hits and drove iin three, capping a four-run fourth with a two-run single to make it 4-0.dddddddddddd Holliday also had a run-scoring double to left and Yadier Molina singled in a run in that inning, and the Cardinals broke it open in the fifth. Matt Carpenter led off that inning with a walk and was ruled safe at second tagging on Randal Grichuks fly to centre following a replay review. He scored on Hollidays bloop single to right, and Adams capped the rally with a two-run single to make it 7-0. Wood felt sharp overall but still couldnt avoid the big innings. Thats something he will try to fix in the off-season. "Wasnt a good year for me overall," said Wood, owner of a 5.03 ERA after making the NL All-Star team last season. "With that being said, it showed me a lot of the stuff that I need to take into the off-season to work on because you learn a lot more about yourself as a pitcher when things arent going good as opposed to when things are." TRAINERS ROOM Cardinals: Adams and Carpenter returned to the lineup after missing two games because of a stomach virus thats been battering the team. Nearly half the Cardinals players and coaches have been affected by it in recent days. Assistant batting coach David Bell and pitcher Marco Gonzales were not with the team Monday because of the virus. "Theres still some aftermath (of the virus) going around," Adams said. "But its getting a lot better." Cubs: RF Jorge Soler was back in the Cubs lineup after leaving Saturdays game against the Dodgers as a precaution due to wet conditions. He had a scheduled day off on Sunday. UP NEXT RHP Shelby Miller (10-9, 3.68 ERA) looks to stay on a roll for St. Louis, as the Cardinals continue their three-game series against the Cubs. He is 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA in four starts in September. RHP Kyle Hendricks (7-2, 2.28) starts for Chicago. UNFRIENDLY CONFINES The Cardinals are 14-31 in night games at Wrigley Field. LOPSIDED MARGIN The Cubs have been outscored 45-22 while dropping four of five.
