On Friday, the Cleveland Browns officially announced the hiring of seven assistant coaches, and also confirmed the retention of two assistant coaches. The new additions include: Joe Whitt as pass game coordinator/secondary coach, Al Holcomb as run game coordinator/linebackers coach David Njoku Jersey , Chris Jones as senior defensive assistant, Tosh Lupoi as defensive line coach, John Lilly as tight ends coach, John Parrella as assistant defensive line coach and Jeff Blasko as assistant offensive line coach. Wide receivers coach Adam Henry and defensive backs coach DeWayne Walker were confirmed to be remaining with the team. We had previously discussed all the other coaching hires; so besides the list below, the write-ups portion will only address the new additions.Head Coach: Freddie Kitchens (Cleveland)OffenseOffensive Coordinator: Todd Monken (Tampa Bay)Quarterbacks: Ryan Lindley (Cleveland)Running Backs/Run Game Coordinator: Stump Mitchell (NY Jets)Wide Receivers: Adam Henry (Cleveland)Tight Ends: John Lilly (U. Tennessee)Offensive Line/Associate Head Coach: James Campen (Green Bay)Assistant Offensive Line: Jeff Blasko (Green Bay)Offensive Quality Control: Jim Dray (Stanford)Offensive Quality Control: Tyler Tettleton (NY Jets)Special Assistant to the Head Coach: Jody Wright (UAB)Lilly had one year of experience in the NFL with the Los Angeles Rams in 2016; besides that, he has been a college coach. Blasko’s addition makes sense, as he was James Campen’s assistant offensive line coach the past two years in Green Bay. The Browns’ offensive coaching staff figures to be complete.DefenseDefensive Coordinator: Steve Wilks (Arizona)Defensive Line: Tosh Lupoi (Alabama)Assistant Defensive Line: John Parrella (Spring league)Linebackers/Run Game Coordinator: Al Holcomb (Arizona)Secondary/Pass Game Coordinator: Joe Whitt (Green Bay)Defensive Backs: DeWayne Walker (Cleveland)Senior Defensive Assistant: Chris Jones (CFL)The Browns’ defensive line coaching staff is an interesting one. This is Lupoi’s first job in the NFL, and the same goes for Parrella, who spent last season helping work with players in a developmental league.Holcomb was previously reported as the linebackers coach/run game coordinator. Whitt becomes the secondary/pass game coordinator and is another highly-touted assistant. He had spent the past 11 years with the Packers, and was also their defensive-pass game coordinator in 2018. Prior to that, he was their secondary/cornerbacks coach since 2009. Staying on board as defensive backs coach is Walker. Jones still has the mysterious title of senior defensive assistant. Cleveland’s defensive staff is probably close to completion, although I could see another lower-end assistant being hired.Special TeamsSpecial Teams Coordinator: Mike Priefer (Minnesota)Assistant Special Teams Coordinator: VacantThe assistant special teams coordinator is still vacant.---Who else would you like to see land in Cleveland as an assistant, Browns fans?
