Seahawks-Bears preview: 5 Qs and 5 As with Windy City Gridiron The Seattle Seahawks take on the Chicago Bears on Monday http://www.authenticsseattleseahawks.com/cheap-justin-britt-jersey , a team that Pete Carroll has had quite a bit of success against since joining this franchise. The Seahawks beat the Bears 23-20 in 2010, Carroll’s third win with the team, and it wasn’t really that close until a Devin Hester punt return touchdown in the final minutes. Chicago then took the divisional round playoff game against the Hawks that year. Then Seattle won 38-14 in 2011. Then there was the pivotal 23-17 win in OT in 2012 that sort of turned around the Seahawks franchise. Then a 26-0 beating in 2015.But this Bears team is nothing like that Bears team. The quarterback in 2015 was Jimmy Clausen, and while Mitchell Trubisky has some growing to do, he’s already matched Clausen in career touchdowns (7). That team had Eddie Royal, Josh Bellamy, and Marquess Wilson at receiver. This team has Allen Robinson, Anthony Miller, Taylor Gabriel, and Kevin White. They’ve also got Trey Burton, Jordan Howard, and Tarik Cohen as weapons.New head coach Matt Nagy should be able to use these numbers to solve the equation of his offense eventually, but it’s on defense where Chicago could really put pressure on Russell Wilson and make it a long Monday night.Khalil Mack. Leonard Floyd, Roquan Smith. Akiem Hicks. Eddie Goldman. The Bears lost their Week 1 primetime game after blowing a 20-0 lead in Green Bay against the Packers, but they did manage to jump out to a 20-0 lead. Even against DeShone Kizer, that’s impressive given the location of the game and the team that Chicago has been in recent years. Nagy has them on the right track, I think, but will the Seahawks manage to beat them before they really find their stride? To find out more about this Bears team, I exchanged five Qs with Windy City Gridiron’s Jeff Berckes, and in turn he send me five As.Q: Outside of Aaron Rodgers just being Aaron Rodgers, what went wrong for the Bears in the second half? I didn’t see the whole second half, did Khalil Mack get completely shutdown after that phenomenal start?A: The pass rush got tired, the Packers made all the plays they needed to, Kyle Fuller dropped a gimme interception, the Bears played tight with some highly questionable play calling, and Aaron Rodgers is a fire-breathing dragon who needs only one leg. I’m answering these questions less than 12 hours after the disaster, so things are a bit raw, but my hope is that this is a learning experience for Nagy and a young Bears team. First, you can’t take your foot off the gas against a team like the Packers or, more accurately, a team with a QB like Rodgers. That’s going to be the same thing for Russell Wilson, who I’d put in Rodgers’ zip code if not his neighborhood. Second is that sometimes you have to realize who your opponent is given the game context and late in the game the Bears were playing the clock. Up 3 with under 3 minutes to go with a 3rd and 1 - you need to play for that yard. Instead, the Bears took a shot, stopped the clock, and kicked the field goal to go up 6 Seahawks Tom Johnson Jersey , leaving way too much time for Rodgers to work his magic. The next time they’re in that situation, I’d hope they’d turn and give the ball to Jordan Howard and win up front. And if that didn’t work, go for it on 4th down and get that yard to close out the game on your terms. If you can’t get 1 yard in two plays, you don’t deserve to win anyway. Q: Assuming Nagy had the script to open the game, it seems like it’s a huge mark in favor of the pre-planned stuff (86-yard touchdown drive) and a major negative in everything else (no other touchdown drives). Are you at all worried about the improvised parts of the game, after the scripts have run out? Was playcalling an issue?A: I do think the play-calling was an issue but to be fair, this is a first year coach with a young QB and completely new weapons. It will take time to figure out how this all works together. If we’re seeing these same issues in November, yeah, I’m going to worry. That being said, you’ve got to be willing to recognize when something is working (Jordan Howard!) and ride or die with that. Nagy opened himself up to plenty of criticism with how he called the game and I’ll be curious to see how that impacts his judgment moving forward. Q: One might expect to see a QB of Mitchell Trubisky’s draft pedigree to struggle as a rookie and then get a whole offseason to grow, learn, compete, work with receivers, coaches, etc., and come out looking much different in year two. Do you think Trubisky looked much different than he did as a rookie?A: I’d say he looks different, yes. I’d also say that playing his rookie year under John Fox did not help his development and for all intents and purposes, he’s basically a rookie this year. The offseason saw a completely new offensive coaching staff, three new wide receivers, a new tight end, and a scheme that is based on modern principles. There are still going to be growing pains. From the first watch of the Green Bay game, I noticed that he dropped his eye level and looked to run a few times, misfired a crucial red zone pass to an open Allen Robinson II, and seemed to tense up when the pressure grew late in the game. There weren’t a lot of bad balls, necessarily, but he needs to stay aggressive and hang in the pocket a bit longer. Q: I have no idea how the Seahawks are going to prevent 8 sacks on Russell Wilson. I really don’t. They’ll need Chicago to struggle on run defense and have weaknesses at corner that hopefully allows Wilson to get the ball out quickly. Do the Bears struggle at run defense and have weaknesses at corner?A: No and yes. I think the run defense is going to be a strength with Eddie Goldman, Akiem Hicks, and Roy Robertson-Harris up front, and fast, talented linebackers cleaning up behind them. The secondary play isn’t going to be as good as the front 7, but they’ll obviously benefit from a strong rush. Kyle Fuller is good, not great, and obviously not much of a threat to hold onto the ball if Wilson tries to gift one. Prince Amukamura is a serviceable second corner and Bryce Callahan is a good slot corner. That secondary will benefit greatly if Angry Doug Baldwin is out and they can focus their efforts on containing Tyler Lockett. As far as the 8 sacks - that sounds amazing but I’ve seen Russell Wilson do Russell Wilson things for a long time and I’m already dreading the pirouettes and bombs to Lockett. Q: Have you heard of Michael Dickson?A: He played tight end for the Ravens, right? Honestly, no Seahawks Tyler Lockett Jersey , I had to look it up, but I didn’t watch any highlight shows or catch the Seahawks game in real time. Obviously, that’s a great weapon to keep the dynamic Tarik Cohen in check and flip the field if this turns into a defensive battle. I hope we see him a lot on Monday...So do we, Jeff. So do we. On Sunday night the Seattle Seahawks host the Kansas City Chiefs, with playoff implications at stake for both teams. The Chiefs bring their high powered offense and a defense that is, simply put, not good. Specifically, the Kansas City defense ranks28th in points allowed, 31st in yards allowed, 25th in yards per play, 32nd in passing yards allowed, 26th in rushing yards allowed, 29th in opponent scoring drive percentage and32nd in defensive penalties. Basically, their defense is about as bad as their offense is good. As such, there is the distinct possibility that several members of the Seahawks could finish tonight having surpassed personal milestones for production, so here are some things to watch for during the game. 87Seahawks running back Chris Carson currently sits at 913 rushing yards on the season, meaning he is just 87 yards away from reaching 1,000 yards on the season. Reaching that threshold would make Carson the first Hawk to reach that level since Marshawn Lynch in 2014, and the first member of the team not named Lynch to reach 1,000 yards in a season during Pete Carroll’s tenure. Carson already holds the title of most yards by a Seahawks running back other than Lynch under Carroll, and only five running backs in franchise history have surpassed 1,000 yards in a single season. Those five areShaun Alexander (5 times)Marshawn Lynch (4 times)Chris Warren (4 times)Curt Warner (4 times)Ricky Watters (3 times)That’s not a bad list of names that Carson could join this week or next. 200While Carson sits just 87 yards away from 1,000 yards rushing, Tyler Lockett is just 200 yards away from a thousand yards receiving on the season after having been given a contract extension this past summer. Lockett has stepped up his game in the face of Paul Richardson leaving for the Washington Redskins, Jimmy Graham taking his lack of production to the Green Bay Packers and Doug Baldwin not playing nearly as much this year due to injuries. The reward for Lockett has been the best season of his career by far, and he is within striking distance of becoming just the second Hawks receiver since 2010 to gain 1,000 yards receiving in a single season. 11Russell Wilson currently sits with just 6 interceptions on the season, with an interception rate of just 1.5915%. Eleven more pass attempts without an interception would put his interception rate at just 1.5464%, which would be better than the 1.5486% he posted in 2014. 3First, for the good: Wilson needs just three more touchdown passes to tie the career high of 34 he set in both 2017 and 2015. The Chiefs allow an average of1.93 touchdown passes a game, so there’s definitely hope that Wilson can match, or exceed his career high during Week 16. Now for the bad: Wilson is just three sacks away from tying his career high of 45 sacks. If he reaches that career high, he will likely reach his career high in sack yards, as he is just 27 yards short of tying that as well. 2,833If that number seems big Youth Shaquem Griffin Jersey , it is. Take for a moment and think back to Week 3 of the 2016 season. Trent Baalke was still the General Manager for the San Francisco 49ers, Chip Kelly was still the head coach and the Seahawks obliterated the Blaine Gabbert led 49ers 37-18 behind a career high 106 rushing yards and 2 TDs from Christine Michael. That was the game in which Wilson injured his knee, which limited his mobility for much of the 2016 campaign. In the fourth quarter, with just thirteen seconds to go in the game, Trevone Boykin took the snap and took a knee for a two yard loss to run out the clock. Seems like forever ago, doesn’t it? In football terms it was. The significance of that game to the matchup against the Chiefs may not be readily apparent to most, but it is quite simple. That kneel down by Boykin to end the game was the last time the Hawks ran an offensive play during the regular season without Germain Ifedi on the field. Since he took over at right guard for J’Marcus Webb in Week 4, and then moved out to right tackle in 2017, Ifedi has been on the field for every single snap that the Seahawks have run. That’s quite a feat, however, with a groin injury making Ifedi a gametime decision for Week 16, the Hawks could be looking at having a third string right guard lining up next to the second string right tackle. If that proves to be the case, don’t be surprised if we spend a lot of the night listening to the announcers calling, “Chris Carson to the left” on repeat. 4.5Frank Clark already has the most sacks in a single season by a player since Carroll became head coach. Four and a half sacks in two weeks is certainly a tall order, however, making a dent in that number against the Chiefs could put Clark in position to have an outside shot at getting the record against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 17. The Cardinals beleaguered offensive line is ranked dead last in the NFL for Pass Blocking Efficiency by PFF, and has allowed 14 sacks over the last four games. The Arizona line is currently comprised of LT Korey Cunningham, a 2018 7th round draft choice, LG Colby Gossett, a 2018 6th round draft choice,C Mason Cole, a 2018 3rd round draft choice, RG Oday Aboushi, who Seahawks fans are familiar with andRT Joe Barksdale, who was cut by the Los Angeles Chargers on December 3 this season. In short, the Arizona offensive line is beat up and missing most of the players who they had expected to be on the field for the team this season. Specifically, here’s a rundown of the players they expected to start this year: LT D.J. Humphries: on IR with an undisclosed knee injury suffered in Week 10,LG Mike Iupati: on IR with an MCL injury suffered in Week 13,C A.Q. Shipley: on IR with a torn ACL suffered during the preseason,RG Justin Pugh: on IR with a torn MCL in Week 10 andRT Andre Smith: cut after the Cardinals 45-10 loss to the Chargers in Week 12.Basically, what I’m trying to say is that no matter how rough the Hawks injury luck has been in recent weeks on the right side of the offensive line, things could be worse, and worse is what the Cardinals offensive line looks like. In any case, that horrible injury luck for the Cards is what could give Clark a glimmer of hope in setting the single season franchise record for sacks in Week 17 if he can come up with a sack or two against the Chiefs in Week 16.
